We received the German Special Design Award 2019 – Interior Architecture in Frankfurt.

I was 26 years old, and 2 years old as an engineer, when I founded a Sabrab in Elvas.

At the time there was no talk in Startups, because there is a newly formed, in full crisis, had a madness to open a company in this sector.
The great real estate crisis that man faced, and the fact that the little jobs that had always existed in the companies, the few people was bet on what was new, much less a kid who was Engineer only two years ago. Still, I believed and risked it.

And today this, fortunately, has changed. We are a country that believes in the young, where there are people who are totally competent, dynamic and professional.

It has been 13 years, and it is now with great pride that you see this my “Startup” in one of the biggest design exhibitions in the World! And even more pride gave me, that the prize was an image of our own office.

Looking back, at age 39, I can say that it’s already worth everything I’ve done, done, made you keep doing.
From Forte da Graça in Elvas, the Elevador de Santa Justa in Lisbon, all the Santa Madalena Clinics of the Montellano Group, among the more than 300 projects with which they no longer have a résumé. But this, this is a special flavor. It’s our office. Where we work every day and where we often spend more time than in our homes.

The architectural project made by our architect Pedro Unas, without any recourse to creativity, which is a dark space, in a full of natural light. It is a space where we feel creative, where we like to be, where we like any customer or supplier, but who essentially like to work!
It’s days like this, where we find our work recognized, that make us want to continue!

Letting natural light flood all the space was the concept for the development of the project, “says Miguel Barbas, CEO of the company that explains how the concept of creating a new space arose:” It was intended that almost the whole area of ​​the project was an integral part of a single space leading to the option for segmentation to be passed through the placement of glass panels. These not only allow the creation of more reserved work spaces but also allow natural light, which only enters through two windows on the main facade of the building, to fill almost the entire office in a homogeneous way.

The simplicity of the design with the application of only one vertical interior element, the glass, also led to ideas of simple concept for the application of floor coverings and ceilings.

In the enclosed zones, Estremoz marble was applied with uneven shades of gray, from the Alentejo region in Portugal, and to the rest of the office a continuous floor in Micro-gray color.

In the project there was also the intention to keep memories of the building’s own building elements at the level of the ceilings, so that the area was chosen, partly in the open space area only by the painting of the gray concrete slab, reserving for the areas enclosed and around them the definition of suspended ceilings with geometric shapes painted white that accompany the implantation of the spaces.

With an area of ​​120m2, Sabrab’s office has two work offices, meeting room in the central office area and open space with common collective work area and technical and printing area. There is also a play area with a snooker table and ping pong table.

In an area of ​​108 m2, it was intended to create several areas that could meet the needs of the company, two offices, meeting room and open space with a common collective work area and a technical and Printing. Being a company based on creativity and the development of new ideas, based on an exchange of knowledge of its employees and still looking for new solutions, it was thought a play area that could provide a relaxed environment in which it was implemented a snooker table and ping pong. This table also allows the possibility of turning into a work table of a larger size. With a unique architecture, separated into two bodies, the construction of the same has no impact on all the surrounding, having been framed between existing cork oaks.

It is intended, in the case of a holiday villa, to make use of outer space. It is always necessary to create ample spaces, which allow to enjoy the landscape as if it were a picture.

Jofebar windows, Panoramah, were placed in order to have the least possible impact of the frames. Use of noble materials such as Dinesen flooring, Panoramah Frames and Okultus doors.
