The prize was awarded to the SABRAB studio by the MUSE Awards for the interior architecture project of Clínica Médis, in Lisbon. “I am very happy and honored for this distinction. In addition to reflecting my work, this award recognizes the work of an entire team. It wouldn’t be possible without my great friend and right-hand man Pedro Unas, as well as all the employees of SABRAB and the VMYR team, who worked in partnership with our atelier ”, begins by saying Miguel Barbas, SABRAB’s CEO. The MUSE Design Awards are global competitions that seek to recognize and promote the best architecture and products of the year. The Médis Clinic offers a modern and welcoming architecture in the reception area. It was developed on one floor and the inspiration for this project was a skylight that illuminates the central area and the waiting room. “The main facade of the Clinic is made of glass and immediately defined the interior materiality of some areas, namely the separation of offices and dental circulation. This separation was also made of transparent glass so that the interior could receive natural light, thus reducing the impact on the use of artificial light, namely in the waiting room, administrative offices and dental offices. To make the space more comfortable, we use materials such as wood ”, explains the CEO of SABRAB. Miguel Barbas was born in Elvas, Alentejo, and has a degree in Civil Engineering from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. A nature lover, he followed the path of design in a more minimalist sense. In April 2006, at the age of 26, he founded SABRAB, company dedicated to creating spaces for living, in harmony with the individuality of each person, where it develops and coordinates engineering, architecture, interior architecture and construction management projects. He worked on several important projects, such as the rehabilitation of Forte da Graça, in Elvas, in Alentejo, and the Elevador de Santa Justa, in Lisbon. At 40, he has won several awards, from a German Design Award 2019, an Iconic Award 2020 and three A´Design Awards.
